Fit & sizes

The basis of the BÄR shoe range is the original BÄR last inspired by the natural shape of the foot. We distinguish between ladies’ and men’s lasts and between a slim fit for narrow to normal feet and a natural fit for normal to wider feet. With this simple principle, BÄR offers you the greatest chance to find just the right shoes for your feet. Once you have found the right shoe, you can rely on BÄR and always order the same size. If your foot should change or you are ordering for the first time, we recommend that you read the guide below or that you contact our fitting advice line which will be happy to help you free of charge on 0808 1563 652 (Freephone). Alternatively write to us at service@comfortshoes24.co.uk or just pop into one of our 16 BÄR Shops throughout Germany.

There are three steps to finding the perfect BÄR fit

When ordering, just tell us the size of shoes you are currently wearing observing the following icons:

Lots of new customers are used to wearing shoes that are too tight, where toes are forced into a cramped space. When customers stop wearing a shoe of this kind for the first time and step into a BÄR shoe, they inevitably often have the feeling that the shoe is too wide. Please always try on both shoes to feel the effect of the zero heel and the generous toe zone on both sides.

Once you are standing in a shoe without the laces fastened, move your foot towards the front until you are touching the shoe. In this position (standing) you should be able to slip your finger between your heel and the shoe. If you have feet of different sizes, choose your shoes according to the bigger foot. Now sit down again, push your feet back into the heel and fasten the laces on the shoes. Take a few steps and pay attention to whether your toes can move freely without touching the front of the shoe. If so, this is
the perfect size.

BÄR shoes give you the feeling that you are walking barefoot. Like walking barefoot, your toes can stretch out with the roll of your foot. They can do this without any hindrance in every BÄR shoe. The fit of the shoe on your foot is in the heel and over the instep thanks to the lacing, the Velcro fastener, or the shape of the shaft while the toe zone is generously shaped.

Why do you need so much space in front of your toes? In the morning, your foot is up to four millimetres shorter than in the evening because the muscles get tired during the course of the day and your foot gets longer as a consequence. This has to be taken into consideration.

It is also important that the foot can roll naturally without any hindrances. To do this, it needs sufficient width and length. If the shoe is too tight, you can jolt the bones and cartilage in your foot. The space is also important for good circulation of the blood in your foot and for having warm feet - without any pinching.
